Born in 1982 in Paithan, Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Somnath Bothe is a Pune-based contemporary artist recognized for his vibrant and textural explorations of Indian spirituality, heritage, and everyday life. A graduate of Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune, Bothe holds a Diploma in Painting from the Mumbai Board and a Diploma in Art Education. His exceptional talent has earned him multiple national honors, including two Gold Medals from the Royal Academy (Gulbarga) and National College Student Awards at Ujjain.
Bothe’s artistic journey began with landscapes and portraits inspired by his rural upbringing, evolving into expressive works that blend the sensitivity of village life with the energy of urban culture. Deeply influenced by nature and cultural symbolism, his works embody an interplay between emotion and form, often reflecting themes of nostalgia, devotion, and the continuity of tradition. His acclaimed “Banaras” and “Sadhu” series capture the spiritual vibrancy of Indian ascetic life through abstract and vividly layered compositions.
He has exhibited extensively across India and internationally, with solo shows at Jehangir Art Gallery (Mumbai), Nehru Centre (Mumbai), and Pradarshak Art Gallery, as well as international showcases including “World Art Dubai” and exhibitions in Switzerland. Somnath was specially invited in 2024 to create a live painting for the Shri Ram Mandir Inauguration at Ayodhya during the Amrit Mahotsav celebration.
