Devidas Dharmadhikari is working as a freelance artist from last twenty-five years. During this period he has worked on many different subjects and
techniques. He is working on Horse series from last ten years.
Everyone knows about power, beauty, strength and many other aspects in it. There is no need to elaborate more about the subject “Horse”.
The subject itself is enthusiastic. Along with this, it is very challenging to portray it in paintings. I have tried to keep the realistic anatomy/ proportion of horses without trying to stylize it. Sometimes I have simplified the form. My paintings are trying to capture the movement of the horse through bold strokes and vibrant colours showing its strength, power, beauty and force, the different semi circles in my paintings unleashes the power of horses to run towards the goal, says the artist.
He mainly uses acrylics, but has used different mediums like oil, water colours, pastels, pencils. He likes working with acrylics because he thinks it suits his nature as he likes to use bold strokes in his paintings and loves the textures through brush strokes. And the strokes together create the depth in his paintings.
Devidas live and work in pune since 1995, where he has a studio, But he has shown his work across India . “I first had a show at Art Resources, Suchitra Arts and Then Gallery Beyond, Mumbai, in 2008. Before that I have many group shows at Trishala Art Bangalore and Prakrit Art Chennai . I have also shown at Chennai’s Aaya & Veda Art Gallery and Delhi’s Joi Art Gallery.” International exposure has come with a group shows Quarter Art Gallery London , Gallery Art Zest Dubai.
