Anjum

Anjum Motiwala is a contemporary artist based in Singapore, with a background in Abstract Art from NAFA, Singapore, and a degree in fashion and design from Mumbai. Anjum has been showcasing her works since 2009.

Anjum’s journey as an artist began many years ago. After spending several years in the world of fashion, she eventually found the freedom to devote herself fully to creating art. Her deep love for fabric textures, prints, and colors from her fashion days as a senior designer naturally found its way onto the canvas, shaping the foundation of her artistic expression.

Her works have been widely exhibited in Asia, Australia, the UK, Canada, the Middle East & India. Her artworks can be found in many private collections across the world.

Achievements & Awards:

Anjum was one of the selected artists from Singapore to showcase her works in Beijing at the Beijing Museum and National Art Gallery in September 2024.
Anjum won an award at the 17th International Painting and Calligraphy Art Exhibition held at the Metropolitan Museum of Japan, Tokyo in May 2024.

Artist Statement

My art reflects the experiences, emotions, and impressions I have gathered from life, travel, and the natural world. I am drawn to color, texture, and form, which I translate onto canvas through bold, layered abstractions. Working with oils and acrylics, I use palette knives and unconventional tools to create a thick impasto surface that carries both strength and movement. Anjum’s abstract works are bold and expressive.

My background in fashion continues to shape my work, with echoes of fabric prints, geometric patterns, and textures subtly woven into my compositions and often hidden beneath layers of paint, waiting to be discovered.

I see art as a space of calm—an anchor away from the noise of everyday life. Each painting is not only an expression of my inner world but also an invitation for the viewer to connect, pause, and experience their own journey through color, form, and depth.
