Have you ever paused by a lily pond, watching light ripple across the water and the gentle drift of lily pads? For me, it’s more than a quiet moment—it’s a lasting connection and a constant source of inspiration that shapes my artistic practice. My work reimagines the waterlily pond through a contemporary lens, where texture, color, and abstraction come together to express the essence of these serene landscapes.
My connection to waterlilies is deeply personal. Growing up in a place where lily ponds are part of everyday life, they became naturally embedded in my visual memory. This familiarity forms the foundation of my art. Rather than simply depicting flowers, I aim to reflect the emotional and environmental relationship I share with these spaces—an ongoing dialogue between nature and self.
Texture plays a central role in my work. I build layers carefully to recreate the way light dances on water and interacts with the varying surfaces of leaves and blossoms. My goal is to evoke a sensory experience—almost as if you can feel the coolness of the water or the smoothness of a lily pad just by looking.
Color allows me to move beyond realism. I often introduce unexpected, fluorescent hues to amplify the pond’s luminosity and its almost dreamlike quality. These choices are not about accuracy but expression—capturing how the place feels rather than how it looks.
In some pieces, I incorporate vertical lines that disrupt the natural horizontal calm of the water. These elements add rhythm and abstraction, encouraging viewers to look deeper and engage with the structure beneath the surface. Through this balance of familiarity and experimentation, I aim to present the lily pond as both a real place and an evolving emotional landscape.
