Vivek Nimbolkar is an acclaimed abstract artist from Pune, Maharashtra (India). Born in 1977 in Jalna, Maharashtra, Vivek completed his Master in Fine Arts (Painting) from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. Over the years, he has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in a wide range of national and international group shows. His remarkable body of work has earned him several prestigious awards, including the Maharashtra State Government Award.
Vivek’s paintings are known for their layered compositions, vibrant color palettes, and bold use of geometric forms. His art reveals a modernist consciousness—each stroke resonating with rhythm, depth, and emotion. His canvases blend structure and spontaneity, creating a unique balance between control and freedom. Through his abstract expressions, he explores the intricate relationship between geometry and the organic beauty of nature.
“All artistic creation is a form of imitation,” says Vivek. His paintings express his deep affection and spiritual connection with nature. To him, painting is an experience of becoming one with the vast universe. His abstract forms, though stylized, hold a definite structure that evokes the vastness and tranquility of natural landscapes. Each piece complements the other, guiding the viewer through a visual journey inspired by the world around us.
Vivek’s paintings often emerge from his vast reservoir of natural imagery, highlighting scenes and emotions that transcend boundaries. His compositions intertwine decorative and expressive elements, creating a dialogue between form, texture, and color. Using a range of media, he brings his emotions to life on canvas, blending vibrant tones, textures, and shapes—triangles, circles, half-circles, and rectangles—into harmonious compositions. His minimalist approach draws the viewer into a peaceful, meditative space, where imagination meets emotion.
The lines and textures in his works play a crucial role, guiding the viewer’s eyes and creating rhythm within the composition. Vivek often likens lines to life’s paths—distinct yet interconnected, each telling its own story. “When you are on a journey, many paths are offered—but following one is like following a line. Each one is distinct from the other, which is why I use them in my work in the same way,” he says.
His art embodies a glowing symphony of color, shape, and texture, where geometry and nature coexist harmoniously. The warmth of yellows, oranges, and reds in his work evokes a gentle yet powerful energy—much like the natural elements he draws inspiration from. His compositions invite viewers into an imaginative landscape where the sun never fades, and the essence of life continues to thrive.
Vivek’s inspiration stems from artists like S.H. Raza, G.R. Santosh, and J. Swaminathan, whose influences are subtly visible in his work. His encounter with Picasso’s exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai, in 2002 marked a turning point in his artistic journey—introducing him to abstraction as a new language of expression.
Today, Vivek’s paintings stand as a testament to his continuous exploration of the relationship between man and nature. His art invites introspection and offers solace—a space where viewers can lose themselves in the quiet glow of color and form, much like a walk through an eternal garden of imagination.
